Appreciation of you

Do you ever take the time to appreciate you – whether:

silently to yourself

writing down all that you appreciate about you

or even (shock horror!!) saying it out loud to others???

All of these can be difficult as you were not brought up normally to do this.   And especially, the last one as this can bring about ‘funny looks’, false smiles and pursed lips and even, ‘Oh, listen to you’ rather than a genuinely supportive response.

It is definitely not easy when the former happens, and I know that myself!!

Why?

Quite simply, as you go about your daily life, it can be normal for you to take for granted the things you do, or how you are because you are able to ‘do’ or ‘be’ without thinking about it?   Certain things come easy to you and you don’t see yourself as anything unusual.

Perhaps this appreciation wasn’t forthcoming when you were younger or you were told you were ‘big headed’ or you believed that if you did, you wouldn’t be liked – safer to stay one of the herd!!   And that was what you did.

You probably don’t appreciate yourself because, in my opinion, most of us as we go through life can simply forget, or even don’t know what a wealth of experience and knowledge that can be tapped into within themselves.    Some don’t have the awareness that they can utilise their abilities, qualities and experience by perhaps someone pointing them out or acknowledging these to themselves.   When you take the appreciation on board, you can then express them quite comfortably as need be.

Appreciation List

To start you off, I am going to invite you to make a list of all your talents, qualities and gifts.  These are your natural abilities to do something well.   You were born with them even if you didn’t realise that.   It is not a skill and you can use your talent(s) or gifts) to develop a particular skill, e.g. good hand-eye co-ordination could mean that you would be good at sports.

Take some time to reflect on you and your life and write them all down.  I want you to be generous with yourself and especially about your qualities.

Then I would like you to look with love at yourself in a mirror.  Tell yourself that you are so proud of you because ……………………. (you can choose one or all of them from your list).   You will have been able to recall how exceptional you have been and so tell yourself this too.

Tell yourself that you are an ordinary woman dealing with all the ups and downs of life, and yet you are also extraordinary.   YOU are unique – there is only one of you.  Appreciate yourself.

DON’T TAKE YOURSELF FOR GRANTED AND SIMPLY MOVE ON!!   The world needs to hear what you have to say (whether quietly or loudly) and see what you have to show them – YOU.

BE BRAVE AND INSPIRING as you go about your daily life with courage and compassion for allowing you to be yourself.

I look forward to hearing your appreciation of you.
