Life is good most of the time and when it’s not then we’ll cope or do something about it – even if pulling the blanket over our head seems the most important thing to do at that moment – and sometimes we can simply feel so helpless, angry and anything in between.

A lovely Italian friend, Annalise Pesa (lives in England) comes from Abruzzo, the area in Italy where earthquakes have been happening and where an avalanche buried a hotel. Yes, buried a hotel with guests and staff inside!!

When you are no longer there, it must be (and is) so awful to not be able to do anything and simply hope and pray people will be found alive. Anguish is not the word!!

Change or shit happens regardless

When we think our lives are more or less ordered and then things happen that are not always for the good, then it is time to re-think and re-look at life.

Normally it is seen that financial success is what we strive for and yet all currencies in life are not just about money. What about our family and friends, and our own and their health? That is the currency to focus on.

Although you and I get told –

be self-reliant

walk to your own drumbeat

pull your own strings

be the master of your life

it doesn’t always work out like that – well maybe for the fortunate few.

Let’s not beat about the bush here.    Change or shit happens regardless – whatever and however we are or think or behave.

Life

As you and I know, life has a way of pulling the rug from under you and problems arise on a daily basis. Italy is only one example of many big happenings going on in life right now. However much we might want it to be, our lives aren’t set in stone.

Life is a continuous process – always evolving and always developing – and we have options and choices along the way is how we are told to view it.

Antidote

I am suggesting that an antidote to the reality of life is not to allow the voice of discouragement and helplessness to take you over. And, of course, it is also important to acknowledge those voices.

When you accept you don’t know what’s going to happen next, and don’t drain your energy in denial or resisting reality, you can learn to acknowledge the depth of your feelings and be in the face of the unknown as much as you are able to.

Don’t have much power over anything

The reality is that there are some things we can’t control and we truly don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Everything can change in a split second.

You and I are flawed and imperfect, ordinary human beings doing the best we can to make life the best it can be.

It’s about accepting life for what it is now and has been – painful, destructive, surprising, beautiful, joyful, crazy, and acknowledging we actually don’t have much power over anything!!!

I am simply owning my helplessness by acknowledging I don’t know what to say about the happenings at the moment.
