Do you put yourself under extreme high standards unnecessarily? I wonder what we women are like – well, shall we say some of us – with regard to inviting someone to our home.

What usually happens?  It’s like all of a sudden we need to spring clean!  Not just basic chores that are done each week but you look and see everything you’ve put off doing ‘until I have time’ or ‘I feel like it’ or any other good excuse you can find.

Usually, of course, the sun decides to shine and all the dust, furniture fingerprints, windows, etc. decide to show you exactly what has not been happening!   Wonderful.

You’ve taken on others’ expectations somehow that you have to be perfect because your home is seen as a reflection of you in one way or another.  So what if it is a bit messy, a little grubby or even chaotic then that means that’s what you are!!!

It reminds me of a cartoon I saw somewhere many years ago –

‘The woman (Jane) is madly cleaning and although her husband (John) helps her, he asks why they are spring cleaning as it’s their usual friends coming for dinner, and the house is fine.  She replies that the women will see anything out of place and they’ll judge her so everything has to be spotless!

The friends arrive and one of the men apologises for being late due to his wife ‘having to clean the oven just in case we somehow all end up at their house and someone wants to bake something’!

John replies that being a bit late isn’t a problem as Jane was delayed due to the fact she was re-lining all the drawers in the bedroom!’

Okay that may be an extreme example but it gives us a good picture of what could happen.  And hopefully put a smile on your face.  I love it and it makes me smile.

We need to let go of our high expectations as they can make us a bit crazy – don’t you agree?

Keep your sense of humour, be your usual self and welcome others in to the warmth of you.

Let me know any of your high expectations of yourself.
