Don’t ask me ‘Are you feeling okay???’

Once again (2nd time this year), I’ve been forced to rest due to some cough/flue-like viral thing going around here in my area. Well it’s not only here as I’ve heard from others in different parts of England who have had it. Also I’ve been driven up the wall as when I do have a little energy, and feel able to do something, I end up exhausted!!! I’m tired, tired and tired at whatever time of the day it is. Going to bed is the main source of comfort.

Be Positive

My lovely friends do kindly ask me, ‘Are you feeling okay?’ and these are the good ones! It’s the others who tell me that I need to stay positive and see what the lessons are in this time of unwellness. Then this is when I could scream, ‘Shut Up. I don’t care what I’m learning. I am exhausted and that’s how it is’. No more or no less, this is my reality. People want to move me away from my reality. Sorry folks, that’s not what I want or need.

You see, for me, it’s when I simply acknowledge this is how I am and I’m doing everything I can to cope right now, then change can happen.

Again for me though, being positive doesn’t mean saying that things are fine when they are not.

And they are not right now!! And for me, being positive means being in touch with my emotions and expressing them appropriately (usually that means, ‘I am tired’ – surprise, surprise!!).

Life doesn’t always run smoothly and acceptance of this is at the very heart of positivity.

Pushing and Striving

Most of us, usually try to force a solution or get an answer by pushing and striving. Perhaps you and I could simply own that, right now, we don’t know what it is all about. We don’t have any answers. And wait and see, and go with the reality of the situation as it is. Sometimes the answer to ‘I wonder what this is all about?’ is in the not-knowing and then in days, months, and even years hence, the possibilities come – the penny drops. Oh, that’s what that was.

Natural Seasons

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished” (Lao Tzu)

If you saw yourself as a garden, some things take lots of hard work, pruning, watering, weeding whilst others just grow regardless. To stay healthy and thrive though hard work is required – you’ve put the basis in (preparation) and you remember to have the right tools e.g. gloves for the thorns and nettles. There are also natural seasons for growth, death, rest and renewal before the new comes through again.

So while I can be grateful for the wonder of the Seasons, it is also about nature needing the time to rest, sleep and recuperate. Perhaps this is what I have needed to do too. Who knows???

Control

I am remembering the words ‘this too will pass’ because then (when I have more energy) I can laugh at myself and laugh at life. I am not in control!! I can only do the best I can at any given time. I’m encouraging myself and you to choose to go with life – to see the craziness of life – as well as allowing myself to be scared, angry, despondent, tired or whatever. We hold all the feelings and can choose to focus on whatever is upper most for us. That is the control I and you have!

So as Seth Godwin said something like, “If we define anxiety as experiencing failure in advance, then changing it to anticipation, you will highlight the highs”. I then have a choice in letting go of my (health) anxiety and being open to anticipation of the future.

What about you? What are you letting go of and anticipating instead?

I want to leave you with this – “We mend what we can and manage the rest!”
