YOU CAN DO IT – BE YOURSELF !!
Those of you who know me personally, and those who do so through being a Facebook Friend, will know that I spoke at London Olympia recently.
My Talk was on ‘The Almost Nearly Confident and Successful Woman – Smiling on the Outside while Crying on the Inside’. I shared that, in my opinion, the bottom line for us all was that we were waiting to hear from the environment, the words
‘I See You and I Accept You just as You Are’
For me, if I, and You, had heard those words then we wouldn’t have that self-doubt that can come in and limit us whenever it is time for us to be visible and break through that glass ceiling (our own and the ones imposed by others).
So often, we heard, saw or picked up the subtle clues that said to us that somehow we were not good enough – ‘if only you did this or that’ instead of being seen as being the best we could be -ourselves. And that was the cause of the ‘crying on the inside’ as we still wait on ‘I See You’.
Again you may know that I love Maya Angelou and her work. She said that there were four questions to be asked –
Do you see me?
Do you care that I’m here?
Am I enough for you, or do you need me to be better in some way?
Can I tell that I’m special to you by the way you look at me?
You can feel, sense, hear, see the answers to those questions when you meet others.
When you respond to others by taking the time to truly see them you are telling them that ‘I see you and acknowledge you are a valued human being’.
The Eyes are the Windows to the Soul
For me, the saying ‘The Eyes are the Windows to the Soul’ is a truth as, when my smile really reaches my eyes when I look at you (and not just the pretend smile), I am letting you in to my Soul.
I am acknowledging your existence and feel connected with you – however fleetingly. I am saying, at that very moment, I am so pleased that you are alive and in my life.
Again, for myself, I am delighted when this happens as I feel the connection and that makes me feel good. It brings about that inner smile, and even my outer one, and so the day seems much more alive. It is a win-win situation for us all.
I love those moments and I’d love to hear from you as I am sure you will have had such experiences too.
